Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts in "Sitorai Mokhi-Khossa"
The Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts is located in the country palace of the last Bukhara emirs, Sitorai Mokhi-Khossa. The palace combines traditional Bukhara decorative art with elements of European architecture and houses collections of furniture, porcelain, jewelry, gold embroidery, clothing and the famous Bukhara embroidery.
About
Sitorai Mokhi-Khossa is located approximately 4 km north of Bukhara. The old palace was built in the second half of the 19th century and has not survived. The current palace ensemble was created in 1912–1918 with the participation of the best Bukhara masters and engineers Margulis and Sakovich.
The Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts was opened here in 1927. Since 1974, a specialized exposition of applied art has been operating in the palace.
Today visitors can see the interiors of the summer palace, furniture of the 19th–20th centuries, Chinese and Japanese porcelain, jewelry by Bukhara masters, gold-embroidered items, traditional clothing, household items and a large collection of Bukhara decorative embroidery — suzani, nimsuzani, zardevory, prayer rugs and other works.
