Museum-forge of the history of Bukhara's blacksmithing craft
The Blacksmithing Museum is located in the Kulyuta caravanserai in the historic center of Bukhara. This is a museum-workshop displaying traditional knives, swords, arrowheads, blacksmithing tools and other items connected with the centuries-old traditions of Bukhara's craftsmen.
About
The Kulyuta caravanserai is located in the center of Bukhara's historic trading district near Toki-Telpak-Furushon. An official museum source dates the caravanserai to the 16th century.
In 1992, a blacksmithing museum was opened here. Its concept is built as a "living museum": visitors get acquainted not only with finished items, but also directly with the process of traditional blacksmithing.
Among the most interesting exhibits are the 19th-century blacksmiths' charter "Risola", a 17th-century chain mail, 17th-century military equipment and ancient blacksmith bellows. Swords, knives, arrowheads and craftsmen's tools are also on display.
