Carpet Museum in the "Magoki-Attari" Mosque
The Carpet Museum is located in the historic Magoki-Attari Mosque in the center of old Bukhara. The exhibition presents the traditional carpet weaving of Central Asia and neighboring regions — Uzbek, Turkmen, Iranian, Kazakh and Armenian carpets of the 18th–20th centuries.
About
Magoki-Attari is one of the oldest architectural monuments of Bukhara. According to the museum's official description, the first mosque on this site was built in 715. In the 12th century a new building was erected; the restoration of the surviving monument dates to 1546–1547.
In 1991, the carpet museum's exposition opened in the building. The collection includes carpets and palases, khurjuns and traditional decorations for yurts of the 18th–20th centuries. The items feature geometric, floral, cosmogonic and zoomorphic motifs.
Thus, a visit to the museum allows one to become acquainted with the traditions of carpet weaving and at the same time to see one of the most significant historical monuments of old Bukhara.
