Tudakul and Kuyimazar reservoirs
The Tudakul and Kuyimazar reservoirs are a large wetland system in the southwestern part of the Kyzylkum Desert, not far from Bukhara. In 2020, an area of 32,000 hectares received the status of a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

Tudakul and Kuyimazar form a single natural complex that is at once of water-management and ecological significance.
The Kuyimazar reservoir is the main source of drinking water for Bukhara and neighbouring Kagan. Its water is less mineralised than that of Tudakul. Tudakul is used, among other things, for aquaculture and agriculture.
The water bodies are of particular importance for migrating birds of the Central Asian flyway. During preparation of the Ramsar nomination, about 229 bird species were recorded here, and the average annual number of migrating birds exceeded 40,000 individuals
