The currency is the Uzbek Sum (UZS). As of 2024, $1 ≈ 12,500 UZS. Visa and Mastercard are accepted at most tourist restaurants, hotels, and some shops, but always carry cash for bazaars, local eateries, and small purchases. ATMs are available throughout the city. Currency exchange offices (obmenniki) are at the airport, train station, and in the city center. Tip: exchange a small amount at the airport for immediate taxi needs, then get a better rate in the city.
